Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
‘Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.

Here is a lesson which explores the Gun Powder Plot of 1605: Guy Fawkes Night
Both fascinating and grisly, 5th November is an annual commemoration in the United Kingdom marking the day when Guy Fawkes and a band of plotters tried to blow up the House of Parliament.
The lesson starts with a mutual dictation to give some background information before exploring the event in more detail via a video clip and some comprehension questions.
As you will see, it might be a little generous to describe these activities as a complete lesson! However, it could be a nice lesson filler, or the foundations of something much grander!
Both children and adults may enjoy this lesson but be mindful that some of the content may not be appropriate for some audiences.
