Lesson: Listening (Extreme winter weather)

Here’s a lesson using an authentic listening from a BBC Weather broadcast.

There are two differentiated worksheets available, easier and more difficult. Throughout the lesson, students with these worksheets should be paired in order to compare and contrast their answers. Although the worksheets have different questions, learners should be able to derive the answers they need by questioning someone with the other worksheet.

As the easier worksheet contains more information than the more difficult worksheet, it helps support collaborative speaking by providing more answers.

The lesson finally moves towards some speaking practice on the theme of extreme weather, allowing some scope for learners to talk about their own experiences.
